The Location

The past year has tested our ability to react and adapt to an overwhelming amount of change. The level of uncertainty we grapple with makes it difficult to envision what the future looks like. As innovators, thinking about and planning for the future is critical to our work. To innovate effectively, we must have a holistic understanding of the landscape in which we operate and broaden our thinking beyond our own biases. While we cannot predict the future, having a framework to navigate times of uncertainty can help us build a better, and more inclusive, path forward.

Join us on Thursday, March 25th for a virtual workshop facilitated by Radha Mistry and Ellen Hlozan, leaders in the field and application of strategic foresight. Radha Mistry and Ellen Hlozan join us from Autodesk Research.

You will walk away from this workshop with:

- A foundational understanding of foresight methodologies and practices

- A framework for creating a future that is preferable and inclusive for all

- An understanding of core foresight principles, including horizon scanning and identifying weak signals of change

- A deeper connection to the members of the WIN community

More about our moderators:

Radha Mistry:

Radha Mistry is sometimes based in Oakland, California and sometimes based elsewhere. She has a background in architecture, narrative environments, and strategic foresight and loves teaching, writing, speaking, and learning about any and all bits related. Radha currently leads the Foresight practice at Autodesk, exploring the impact of emerging technologies and how it will change the way we design and make things in the future. She also teaches as part-time faculty on the Transdisciplinary Design MFA at The New School (Parsons). Prior to Autodesk, Radha focused on the Future of Work with the Steelcase Applied Research group. Her work sought out ways organizations could drive Innovation through design. Previous to Steelcase, Radha was part of the Arup Foresight + Innovation team in London and San Francisco, crafting speculative futures for global clients; she has also exhibited during the Lisbon Architecture Triennale and worked on design-led community engagement initiatives in cities across Europe

 Ellen Hlozan

As a Community Manager at Autodesk's Global Technology Centers, Ellen Hlozan co-launched the Toronto site and local Outsight Network, focusing on developing innovative programming with residents, researchers, and broader innovation communities. She has a background in Art History, a Masters degree in Information Sciences, and has worked in commercial galleries, non-profit organizations, and museums. Currently, Ellen is working on building up foresight fluency in the community she manages and completing a foresight specialization at the Institute for the Future (IFTF).

What You’ll Need
- Laptop or desktop computer with functioning camera, microphone, and internet
- A nice quiet place to log in where you can actively speak and participate (we know it can be difficult to find a perfectly quiet spot at home, so all we ask is you do your best!)
- Zoom downloaded on your computer. Note--if you are unable to download Zoom, you can also join the link from your browser (Chrome or Edge work best). Please allow for an additional 5 minutes before the session starts to get it set up.

We highly recommend using a laptop or desktop for this session since we will be using Zoom to come together as a community. Please make sure you’ll be ready to use both services before the session begins.

Clear your calendar - It's going down! Schedule Blocks kicks off on May 20th, and you're invited to take part in the festivities. Splash HQ (122 W 26th St) is our meeting spot for a night of fun and excitement. Come one, come all, bring a guest, and hang loose.
